Title: “Success, Progress, and Challenges in Climate Modeling”
Abstract: As the impacts of human-caused climate change become more evident, and the need for adaption and mitigation decision support more urgent, reliable, and actionable information about the Earth System has become more necessary. I’ll discuss the historical development of climate models, their success and problems, how progress continues to be made, and the challenges that remain (and new ones that are emerging). What is the role of climate modeling if people already understand the need for emission reductions? Does the current ecosystem of climate models and projections serve the broader user community well? Or do we still have more work to do?
