Living near and spending time in greenspace can improve our mental and physical health. Understanding the connection between health and nature exposure is particularly important for our increasingly technological-connected and urbanized society.

Champaign County Master Gardeners will present a free program all about this connection and how we can incorporate nature into our lives. “Health Benefits of Interacting with Nature” will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at 7 p.m. at the Champaign Extension Auditorium (801 N. Country Fair Drive, Champaign).

This presentation will be given by Matthew Browning, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Recreation, Sport and Tourism and Director of the Virtual Reality & Nature Lab, College of Applied Health Sciences, Univ. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Browning will discuss the outcomes from time spent in nature and the mechanisms that can explain these protective benefits. Attendees will learn about current research on the recommended “dosage” of nature exposure and innovative techniques to increase people’s time in nature.

This presentation is free and open to the public. Register online at go.illinois.edu/Nature.
