Meet Vikram Sudhan Muthuvel, a sophomore in Earth, Society, and Environment (ESE) and a member of the Land & Water SWATeam.
Muthuvel joined his SWATeam to get experience working to solve sustainability problems around campus while collaborating with faculty and students who share the same passion. He sees it as his starting point in the world of sustainability.
His team strives to achieve the objectives set out in the current Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP), and it is working on new objectives for the 2020 plan.
“Land and water are becoming scarcer in many parts of the world in terms of food production, deforestation, drought, etc.,” Muthuvel said. “Making progress in this field can have long-term positive effects.”
In his free time, Muthuvel enjoys exploring new places, going to the gym, and trying a variety of cuisines. His favorite thing about being a student at the University of Illinois is the college experience: He loves that everything is a walkable distance, and that the student body is so diverse and includes people from many different backgrounds.
