Meet Gabriel Mishaan, a M.S. Candidate in Civil Engineering and a member of the Energy Generation, Purchasing, and Distribution SWATeam.
Mishaan was born in Guatemala and earned his undergraduate degree in Israel. Now, as a second-year graduate student at the University of Illinois, he is a member of the Student Sustainability Committee (SSC) and serves as a Research Assistant in the Rock Mechanics Lab.
He originally got involved in the SWATeam through his position as Co-Chair of SSC’s Energy Subcommittee. His team’s goal is to reduce total energy usage and associated emissions, to provide greener alternatives for energy production, and to improve building energy performance on the U of I campus. He hopes to learn from other SWATeam members while bringing new ideas and his own perspective to the table. The team’s work could contribute to a more sustainable and greener energy policy.
“I am very excited to join the SWATeam,” Mishaan said, “as I want to be part of the solution and contribute in making the University of Illinois a more sustainable place and an example for other universities and organizations around the world.”
