Michael Reiter, a second-year graduate student in Civil & Environmental Engineering, serves on the Energy SWATeam.
After working as an engineer for seven years, Reiter is back to get his Ph.D. due to his triple-threat passions for infrastructure, design, and sustainability.
Reiter wanted to use his skills to contribute to the bigger sustainability picture here at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
“I joined to make a contribution to the University in a way that utilizes my skills and experience, and I want to help the campus achieve the goal of being carbon neutral by 2050,” Reiter said.
The energy aspect of sustainability is important to Reiter because of the opportunity to mitigate climate change as an engineer.
