Meet Justin Holding: Ambitious but Reasonable Goals for Zero Waste

Justin Holding is a senior completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. He is also a new member of the Zero Waste iCAP team for 2022-23.

Holding’s interest in sustainability began in his freshman year, with his experience with the dining halls. After doing a bit of research, he was able to learn more about iSEE, the Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP), and other campus sustainability programs. He decided to join the Zero Waste team after his work with the University Housing department and their reusable container program. Holding has also launched a business focused on helping companies make the switch to reusable containers.

He believes that sustainability leadership, setting ambitious yet reasonable goals, and providing assistance to individuals will help make an impact. Holding’s favorite aspect of working with this team is the ability to recommend and make changes that will leave a lasting impact for years to come. He wants future students to enjoy this school and community as much as he did. Holding’s goal while working with the iCAP team is to help all campus departments lower their overall footprint and make strides to reach zero waste, one step at a time.

In his free time, Holding likes to be outdoors — specifically golfing, going on hikes, and playing games with friends.
