Meet Jonah Messinger, a sophomore Agricultural and Biological Engineering major in The Grainger College of Engineering and a member of the Energy Generation, Purchasing, and Distribution SWATeam.
Messinger, who originally started serving on the Energy Conservation and Building Standards team in Fall 2018 but switched to EGEN later in the semester, is also the Vice President of the Illinois Solar Decathlon and the Student Sustainability Leadership Council (SSLC), and he works as a researcher in the Light-Material Interaction in Energy Conversion Research Center. He likes to spend his free time outdoors and enjoys backpacking, kayaking, rafting, and camping.
As a member of a SWATeam, Messinger hopes to help further energy efficiency standards around campus and to decrease energy usage.
“I see joining a SWATeam as an opportunity to effect change in the University of Illinois’ impact on the climate,” he said. “I am very passionate about the energy industry and helping to fight climate through energy-based solutions.”
