First Presbyterian Church of Urbana will host a six-week public seminar series entitled The Arc of Human History: Challenges to Sustainability.

This series, which will be presented by University of Illinois experts, will describe these challenges and ways to address them.

The seminars will be held on six consecutive Sundays beginning Oct. 1, 2017 (corrected Oct. 16 for Weeks 4-5) …

Week 1 (Oct. 1) — Screening of “Journey of the Universe: Story of Cosmic, Earth and Human Transformation”

Week 2 (Oct. 8) — The Challenge of Human Population Growth, presented by David Sherwood, Professor Emeritus in Colleges of Medicine and LAS

Week 3 (Oct. 15) — The Challenge of Sustainable Mineral and Energy Resources, presented by Stephen Marshak, Director of School of Earth, Society and Environment

Week 4 (Oct. 22) — The Challenge of Sustainable Food Availability, presented by iSEE Baum Family Director Evan H. DeLucia

Week 5 (Oct. 29) — The Challenge of Sustainable Fresh Water Availability, presented by iSEE Associate Director Ximing Cai

Week 6 (Nov. 5) — Extinction and Biodiversity in the Modern Era: Worrisome Trends and Practical Solutions, presented by Jeffrey Brawn, Head of Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences
